So I've been watching and pondering my favorite movies this week, and have only just realised that most of them are music based lmao I will continue to add to this as I remember movies. In no particular order:
Se7en
This was one of those movies I'd watch to bed most nights for no apparent reason, along with The Blaire Witch Project, Armageton, Labyrinth, Atlantis, Fern Gully and many others. I always found the plot of a serial killer killing according to the 7 deadly sins fasinating, though I'm not sure what that says for my choice in films at the age of 10.
The League of Extraordanary Gentlemen
To me this film was simply genius. The included all the greatest classical stories and adventurers in a single movie, AND MADE IT WORK. They did replace the original Invisible Man with Skinner, though in their defense the original Ivisible Man did die at the end of his book(not to mention he was a bit of a douche, so I'm not complaining).
Labyrinth
David Bowie. 'Nuff said.
The Phantom of the Opera
Both the play and movie portrayal of this story were absolutely beautiful, and you never really realise how alone and vunerable the "phantom" is until the last 10 minutes of the story, when the poor guy's on the ground crying after recieving the first act of compation his life has ever seen. Nothing like good ol' heatwarming mushy endings <3
The Nightmare Before Christmas
One of the few "popular movies" that I truely enjoy, though more for it's musical aspects and creative theme weaving of Christmas and Halloween than anything else. The songs. They get in your head and never leave.
The Princess and the Frog
It's been a while since Disney's pumped out any movies I've legitimately liked, but this one definately did it for me. It was a unique twist to an ancient and traditional story(which they're naturally famous for) but it was also hand drawn rather then computer animated, which added a special warmth to it I think.
Anastasia
An older animated movie that most of you probably haven't seen since you were 9, but will remember within the first 5 minutes of watching. It's simply marvelous and memorable. I shit you not, a few years ago my brother was humming a song from it, and neither of us could figure out where the hell it was from yet we both somehow knew the tune. Neither of us had seen the movie in about 5 years, yet we could still hum that song note-for-note.
Les Misérables
Okay so teeeeeeechnically it's not a legitamate film yet(it will be come Christmas of 2012) but doesn't keep it from kicking ass. Valjean <3 That man is too kind for his own good. I count this on my list of top movies not only for it's beautiful heart capturing songs
and french origins but because of the story. You find that even people convicted of crimes can turn out to be the best of people, and ruthless police inspectors can ultimately have a heart. Even if they commit suicide not a day after realizing this >.>
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
To be honest I'm not all that sure what puts this in my top films list. I think it might just be everything in general lmao Like usually I focus on one thing or another that I like, but with this film I just like it all.
Fern Gully
I've always been a sucker for rainforests and preserving nature, and I think this film has a lot to do with that. As a dear friend once told me, "No matter how old you are, you can learn something from this movie. " and it's the damned truth. It's not some hippie chick flick like one would expect from just reading about it, it's a legitamately good story that happens to include a very real message, not the other way around.
